Shredded Mind

Lucie Rosická is one of the boldest young artists working with textiles, quilting, and embroidery techniques as full-fledged media of contemporary art. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (AVU), where she studied in Painting Studio IV under Marek Meduna and Petr Dub. Her work has long had a strongly autobiographical, even diary-like character: It is based on her own body, intimacy, and lived emotions and experiences. She often works with eroticized poses - not in a superficial way but as a means of capturing vulnerability, self-observation, and the pressure that the female body is subjected to. Minor imperfections, physical transformations, and vestiges of time are an integral part of her works. Her interest in textiles intensified during an internship in Turin, Italy, where she gained a deeper understanding of the history of fashion and its materials. In her work, she uses both expensive materials, such as velvet and satin, as well as found fabrics purchased at secondhand stores or donated to her, which carry personal memories. In the context of the artist’s body of work to date, Shredded Mind is unusually expressive and abstract. A shattered, fragmented body disintegrates into a wild tangle of lines made of quilted satin and velvet. The only clearly recognizable figurative motif is a hand that seems to be resisting an unnamed external force. The image thus captures a state of extreme psychological agitation - a moment in which physical experience and mental tension meld into a single urgent gesture.
