The iconic Kelly line was introduced in the 1930s under the direction of Hermès’ then artistic director, Robert Dumas, as a modern and innovative interpretation of the women’s handbag. The model acquired its now – legendary name only in the late 1950s, when it became indelibly associated with Princess Grace of Monaco. Famously photographed using the bag to discreetly conceal the first signs of pregnancy, she propelled the design onto the world stage, transforming it into an enduring symbol of timeless luxury and feminine refinement. The present example is distinguished by its execution in the iconic Rouge H hue, one of the most celebrated colours within the Hermès palette. Contrasting white saddle stitching highlights the meticulous hand craftsmanship and the bag’s architectural clarity of line. It is crafted from Grain Lisse calfskin – a highly durable leather no longer in production – prized for its smooth surface, subtle sheen, and ability to maintain a pristine appearance over time. Paired with palladium hardware, the result is an exceptionally attractive and highly collectible example from this legendary line.
