The internationally renowned glass studio DECHEM was founded in 2012 by designers Michaela Tomišková and Jakub Janďourek. Their work builds on the tradition of handcrafted Czech glass, which they have further developed with a contemporary design language and in close collaboration with local glassworks. The studio’s portfolio includes functional objects—particularly vases and lighting fixtures—as well as decorative pieces that straddle the line between design and fine art. The pieces are handcrafted using traditional techniques such as glassblowing, cutting, grinding, engraving, and painting. DECHEM’s work has won numerous awards in the Czech Republic and abroad and is represented in many prestigious institutions and private collections around the world. The studio’s iconic product is the Bandaska, a minimalist vase whose shape is inspired by traditional Czech milk jugs. It is characterized by pastel colors and subtle transitions between individual shades. The Konfeta vase is based on the Bandaska design, but its surface is studded with colorful fragments of glass rods commonly used to color molten glass during the blowing process. The glass fragments on the surface resemble confetti, alluding to the theme of celebrating life. Each piece in the series is a unique original.
