At Night belongs to a series of paintings exploring identity through different moments of the day – dawn, day, dusk and night. The changing light becomes a metaphor for the instability of the self: just as one part of the day gradually gives way to another, identity is never entirely fixed, but continually shaped and transformed by time and experience.
In At Night, the figure appears suspended in a quieter, more inward state. Yet night is not presented as an ending. It is one moment within a continuous cycle, carrying within it the possibility of another beginning.

Aziya was born in Kazakhstan into a family of artists and filmmakers. She studied fine arts at Empire State College in New York and communication at La Salle University in Philadelphia. Having lived in the USA, Asia, and Europe, she is now based in Prague. In her painting practice, she challenges traditional gender narratives and promotes cultural dialogue. Her work draws on her Central Asian roots and is shaped by a global life experience. She portrays women who embody calm and quiet strength, often set against minimalist, abstract backgrounds that highlight their emotional depth.

Donated in support of the Happy Hearts Foundation, the work acquires an additional resonance. Education can profoundly alter the possibilities available to a child, particularly when circumstances have been disrupted by natural disaster. In this context, At Night speaks not only about change, but about the possibility of what may come next.
