The presented work, Swarm of Happiness, is by Václav Kiml, a distinctive figure in Czech post-war art. His paintings are characterised by a singular imagination, vibrant use of colour and a poetic vision of reality, in which real-world stimuli are transformed into lyrical, at times almost dreamlike pictorial worlds.
The charitable purpose of this lot is directly connected with Adéla Kodl, who will take to the starting line of the New York City Marathon on 1 November, running for Fred’s Team, the official running programme of New York’s Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, one of the world’s leading institutions dedicated to cancer treatment and research. Adéla has set herself a fundraising goal of USD 8,500 in support of cancer research. The auction of Swarm of Happiness will contribute towards this goal, with 50% of the hammer price donated through Fred’s Team to support cancer research.
