At <a href="https://www.galeriekodl.cz/cs/aukce/52/">Galerie KODL&rsquo;s spring Auction</a>, a collection of 217 outstanding works was offered, tracing the development of Czech art over the past three centuries. The auction attracted more than 400 visitors in the saleroom, while nearly 400 additional bidders participated via telephone and online through the Artslimit platform, creating a highly dynamic atmosphere. Particular attention was drawn to works by Josef Čapek, Emil Filla, V&aacute;clav &Scaron;p&aacute;la, Jakub Schikaneder, Jindřich &Scaron;tyrsk&yacute;, Karel Čern&yacute;, Josef Lada, Adriena &Scaron;imotov&aacute; and Eva &Scaron;vankmajerov&aacute;.
Josef Čapek&rsquo;s painting&nbsp;<a href="https://artslimit.com/item/7154">Drinker </a>surpassed the artist&rsquo;s record achieved last year by more than CZK 4 million. Starting at CZK 9 million, the work ultimately sold for an extraordinary CZK 34 080 000. One of the most closely watched lots was <a href="https://www.artslimit.com/en/item/7089">Self-Portrait by the Window 1</a> by Theodor Pi&scaron;těk, to whose memory the entire Spring Auction was dedicated. The painting was acquired for CZK 15.6 million, making it the second most expensive work ever sold by the artist. Another work to achieve the second-highest auction result for its creator was <a href="https://artslimit.com/item/7174">Silent Bay</a> by Jakub Schikaneder, an outstanding example of gallery-quality significance, which sold for CZK 15 720 000.
Collectors also showed strong interest in Karel Čern&yacute;&rsquo;s <a href="https://www.artslimit.com/cs/item/7114">Night</a>, which rose from a starting price of CZK 2 million to CZK 7 440 000. Emil Filla&rsquo;s exceptional&nbsp;<a href="https://artslimit.com/item/7197">Still Life with Watermelon</a> from his celebrated White Period likewise found a new owner for CZK 6 720 000.
A remarkable increase was also seen in the bidding for Jindřich &Scaron;tyrsk&yacute;&rsquo;s paper collage <a href="https://www.artslimit.com/en/item/7080">Woman with a Violin</a>. Starting at CZK 150,000, it was eventually acquired for CZK 1 320 000.
The auction confirmed the growing interest among collectors in art from the second half of the twentieth century. Adriena &Scaron;imotov&aacute;&rsquo;s <a href="https://www.artslimit.com/cs/item/7072">June Day</a> achieved a particularly strong result, rising from a starting price of CZK 800 000 to&nbsp;CZK 3 120 000. Eva &Scaron;vankmajerov&aacute; also set a new auction record, with her work <a href="artslimit.com/cs/item/7258">Trace</a> selling for CZK 1 800 000.
As is now a tradition, the first part of the Sunday auction was dedicated to charity. A total of CZK 515 000 was raised in support of artistic projects of the Prague Spring International Music Festival, while CZK 942 500 will benefit the social rehabilitation centre Centrum Paraple.
Successful bidders may collect their artworks by prior arrangement at Galerie KODL, N&aacute;rodn&iacute; 7, Prague 1, starting from Tuesday, 2 June.
