Wall Souvenir

Wall Souvenir represents a unique example of the work of one of the most renowned contemporary street artists, known under the name Banksy. In 2017, he opened the Walled Off Hotel in the immediate vicinity of the West Bank barrier dividing the Palestinian city of Bethlehem. The present object directly refers to this site. It consists of two parts: an artist-decorated 3D print evoking concrete fragments of the erected wall, from which iron reinforcements protrude ominously, and a concrete base that originally formed part of the barrier separating the Palestinian and Jewish areas of Bethlehem.
The oppressive reality conveyed by the work, both visually and symbolically, is intensified by the iconic graffiti motif depicting a small girl releasing a heart-shaped balloon into the wind, accompanied by inscription “There is always hope.” The exclusivity of the object is further underscored by the fact that it is issued in a limited edition and made available exclusively to hotel visitors, thus acquiring the character of an authentic and exceptional souvenir directly linked to Banksy’s project.
