A set of three works by Jan Pištěk, one of the leading figures of the Czech painting scene since the late 1980s, represents the artistic direction with which he returned to the art world after a two-year pause at the turn of the millennium. In the Horizons cycle, he continued his lifelong fascination with natural phenomena and, through subtle transitions of rich colors, expressed his admiration for the ever-changing landscape influenced by the shifting times of day. The contemplative effect of the smooth transitions between color tones is disrupted by a subtle yet striking line representing the horizon. Dawn, Green Horizon, and Dusk are unique works that captivate the viewer and transport them into mysterious distances, whether exhibited individually as stand-alone pieces or together as a triptych. The work Green Horizon (2009) is published in the artist’s monograph (Jan Pištěk: Hidden Stories, Prague 2025, p. 143, cat. no. 222).
