The Artslimit 10 Online Auction presents a diverse and refined collection of works from the 19th and 20th centuries, enriched by pieces ranging from Old Masters to contemporary art.
Among the highlights of 19th-century art is a drawing by Luděk Marold, one of the most distinguished Czech artists active in Paris at the close of the century. Created as an illustration for Les Vrais Riches by French writer Fran&ccedil;ois Copp&eacute;e, the work reveals social contrasts with delicate irony. The collection also features an outstanding example of Antonie Brandeisov&aacute;, the first woman to study at the Academy of Venice, whose Venetian vedute and Roman scenes were once highly sought after by admirers of Italy. Folk traditions are vividly captured in Joža Uprka&rsquo;s Girl from Hroznov&aacute; Lhota and Girl from Pie&scaron;ťany, works that reflect the artist&rsquo;s lifelong fascination with regional costumes and village life in his native Slov&aacute;cko. Landscape painting of the early 20th century is represented above all by members of Mař&aacute;k&rsquo;s school, such as Franti&scaron;ek Kav&aacute;n and Alois Kalvoda. The auction will once again include a canvas by V&aacute;clav Radimsk&yacute;, one of the most sought-after Czech landscape painters and an important link to the tradition of French Impressionism. Czech modernism is embodied in works by Jan Zrzav&yacute;, Otakar Kub&iacute;n, V&aacute;clav &Scaron;p&aacute;la, and Josef Lada. Particularly captivating is Toyen&rsquo;s cycle Hide Yourself, War and a remarkable set of illustrations by Josef &Scaron;&iacute;ma for Richard Weiner&rsquo;s book The Real Game. The auction also offers a poetic painting by actor and artist Josef Hlinomaz, humorously portraying a scene from the legendary Humberto Circus. Wit and exaggeration likewise infuse the colorful compositions of Josef Liesler and the collages of Jiř&iacute; Kol&aacute;ř. The art of the second half of the 20th century is further represented by leading figures such as Ota Janeček, Josef J&iacute;ra, Josef Istler, and Mikul&aacute;&scaron; Medek, while sculpture finds expression in works by Olbram Zoubek, Zbyněk Sekal, and Vladim&iacute;r Precl&iacute;k. Contemporary voices include Ivan Martin, whose painting continues in the tradition of the Old Masters, and the decadent artwork of Slovak artist Martin Gerboc.

The work was published in the artist&rsquo;s monograph (A. Matějček: Jan Preisler, Prague 1950, cat. no. 57) and bears on the reverse the artist&rsquo;s estate stamp with the number 419.
