The Large Knitted Bowl by Milan Pekař is part of the Woven collection, developed in collaboration with Tereza Sluková and comprising ceramic furniture and objects inspired by textile techniques such as weaving and knitting. The inspiration came from the earliest prehistoric ceramic vessels, which were made by pressing clay into woven baskets and then firing it. Ceramics and textiles were probably among the first complex crafts practised by humans. While ceramics have survived in large quantities, early evidence of weaving has survived only as impressions in pottery shards. Here, weaving and knitting serve not only as decorative patterns but also as the primary load-bearing structure of the objects.
