The pre-auction exhibition for <a href="https://www.galeriekodl.cz/cs/aukce/49/">KODL Gallery's </a>93rd Spring Auction showcases 217 top works of art from the 18th century to the present day. The oldest piece, representing 18th-century painting, is the charming genre scene Landscape with Villagers by Norbert Grund.&nbsp;In the collection of Old Masters, we then encounter works by 19th-century landscape painters such as August Bedřich Piepenhagen, Josef Navr&aacute;til, and Maximilian Haushofer, whose name is represented by the rare landscape Christmas Eve.&nbsp;The exhibition also features works by representatives of the National Theatre generation, including V&aacute;clav Brož&iacute;k, Jakub Schikaneder, and Vojtěch Hynais, whose portrait Lady with a Fan reminds us not only of his famous National Theatre curtain but also of his outstanding talent as a portrait artist.&nbsp;The conclusion of the so-called long century is represented by works from the Mař&aacute;k School pupils Franti&scaron;ek Kav&aacute;n, Ota Buben&iacute;ček, and newly discovered paintings by Otakar Lebeda.&nbsp;The transition into the 20th century is also marked by works from Oldřich Blaž&iacute;ček and V&aacute;clav Radimsk&yacute;, a leading figure of impressionist landscape painting.&nbsp;An exceptional gallery-quality piece is Okořsk&yacute; potok in Spring by Anton&iacute;n Hudeček.
The early 20th century is represented by cubist still lifes by Emil Filla, Anton&iacute;n Proch&aacute;zka, and Josef Čapek. Among the exhibited works is the long-lost painting Blooming Meadow by Josef Čapek, returning to the Czech Republic after almost 90 years.&nbsp;The rural poetry and the world of childhood are further captured in the works of Josef Lada and Kamil Lhot&aacute;k.&nbsp;Post-World War II painting is represented, among others, by Orchid by Mikul&aacute;&scaron; Medek, originating from the estate of Dr. Alice Masarykov&aacute;, as well as mythologically inspired and spiritually symbolic works by Josef &Scaron;&iacute;ma, such as Antaios, Crystals, and Orphean Motif.&nbsp;Postwar abstraction is further illustrated by works from Jan Kot&iacute;k, Robert Piesen, and pioneer of structural abstraction Zdeněk S&yacute;kora.&nbsp;A different aspect of postwar art is presented through the landscapes of Vlastimil Bene&scaron; and Bohdan Kopeck&yacute;.
The auction collection concludes with works by contemporary artists including Jan Kal&aacute;b, Jiř&iacute; Černick&yacute;, Vladim&iacute;r Houdek, Jaroslav R&oacute;na, MAATTY, and photographer Alžběta Jungrov&aacute;.&nbsp;A special highlight is a group of six works created around the common theme of "time" by Josef Bolf, Michael Rittstein, Martin Krajc, Rony Plesl, Jakub Tom&aacute;&scaron;, and Anna Neborov&aacute;, which will be auctioned in support of the Prague Spring Festival. &nbsp;These artworks (lots 10&ndash;15) will not be exhibited at the KODL Gallery; instead, they will be on view during the Prague Spring 2025 concerts at the Rudolfinum (in the Dvoř&aacute;k Hall foyer) and at the Municipal House (Rieger Hall). A charitable character will also mark the opening part of the auction, with selected works being auctioned to benefit the nonprofit organization&nbsp;Centrum Paraple.
