Jaroslav Klápště studied at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague under František Tichý and Emil Filla between 1945 and 1950. Among his classmates were a number of prominent personalities such as Stanislav Kolíbal, Mikuláš Medek, the Vála´s sisters or Zbyněk Sekal. His path to a distinctive artistic expression has always been strongly influenced mainly by his connection to the Krkonoše foothills. The artist came from Záhoří near Semily and remained faithful to the landscape of Semily for the rest of his life. Here, in seclusion, in peace and without undue fuss, most of his characteristically strongly expressive works full of dramatic moods and situations were created.
