This representative work by the sculptor Eva Kmentová points to her lifelong interest in the figure and nature, which she approached with a modern reduction of forms, culminating in her abstract artistic expression in the late 1950s. The presented hanging sculpture was commissioned by the then Clothing Factory in Prostějov to decorate their entrance to the showroom. Here, the artist worked with the motif of veiled figures or prints of the human body, which became essential for her and made her stand out among her contemporaries. The work comes from her peak creative period, which ended with her illness in the mid-seventies, due to which Kmentová continued to prefer drawing and working with paper. This lot presents an exceptional opportunity for collectors of art of the second half of the 20th century who can appreciate the immense sensitivity, timelessness and conceptual dimension of the work of one of the most remarkable Czech female artists. The work was presented at the artist’s solo exhibition in Mánes, Prague (Eva Kmentová, Art Work Diary, 5 December 2006 – 27 January 2007) and in the Brno House of Arts (Eva Kmentová, 23 August – 19 November 2023). It was also published in the monograph by Ludmila Vachtová (Now: The Work of Eva Kmentová, Prague 2006, p. 178, cat. No. 231). You can view the sculpture from Tuesday to Sunday between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the Karpuchina Gallery (Rybná 694/22, Prague 1) until 24th March.
