Between 1945 and 1950, Klápště studied at The Academy of Applied Arts in Prague under the guidance of František Tichý and Emil Filla. Among his schoolmates were a number of prominent personalities such as Stanislav Kolíbal, Mikuláš Medek, Jitka and Květa Válová, and Zbyněk Sekal. His journey to a unique artistic expression has always been strongly influenced by his relation to the Giant Mountains (Krkonoše). The artist came from Záhoří near Semily and remained loyal to this region throughout his life. Here, in seclusion, in peace and without unnecessary disturbance, he executed most of his peculiar works full of strong expression and dramatic atmosphere.
