Rudolf Burda ranks among the most accomplished Czech artists working with the medium of glass. The precise refinement of forms and the pursuit of the essence of the perfect shape have become the artist’s lifelong endeavor, reflecting his strong relationship with geometric abstraction, avant-garde architecture, and minimalism, with its desire to strip away everything superfluous, down to a kind of mystical fundamental visual statement. His work is based on a well-mastered craft involving various glassmaking techniques, such as layered or blown glass, and a wealth of means of embellishing it. He often combines his objects with polished stainless steel or natural materials, which he also uses to create large-scale architectural sculptures for the public space. Burda has achieved considerable success abroad in recent years. His works have been exhibited all over the world and are represented in many public and private collections. SOLE POSITIVO is the artist’s latest object made of hand-blown uranium glass. It is a composition of two cut surfaces with a lens fitted into the top of the object. The surface is hand-processed and polished. The object symbolizes the radiant, positive sun, an emitter of energy, and it reflects the surrounding world through optical mechanisms, thus transforming it into a kind of inner positive universe inside of itself.
