Ondřej Basjuk's work is strongly influenced by his fascination with the art of the Far East. His work, based on complex and well-thought-out analyses, originates from a deep knowledge of the philosophy of depiction in this part of the world as well as from knowledge of the field of philosophy and cultural history in general. Basjuk's meditative paintings create a harmonious blend of the spiritual world with the perceptible one. His appealing artworks present a synthesis of a masterful drawing, demonstrated through a monochrome colour palette, and his often concealed socio-critical outreach. T he painting Black Lake is the artist's loose portrayal of the well-known series by the Czech artist Jan Preisler. As in Preisler's works, the black surface, which dominates the composition, has an enchanting effect on the beholder. In Basjuk's case, however, it is a smartphone screen representing contemporary transformations of values.
